Mary Fitzgerald (my mum)
Oil on Canvas
It was difficult to decide how my Mums portrait should look. Locating her in Cyprus seemed the obvious choice as it was her favourite and most frequent holiday destination. However, as her late husband Edmunds ashes are scattered there, and I only wanted to celebrate truly happy times, so I painted her in Las Vegas. An unlikely destination for me and possibly the only place I've painted from photos, having never been. They enjoyed the shows, she loved a flutter on the machines and shopping, mostly for gifts for us. She did this while managing luggage, wheelchair and organising travel. Visiting Hawaii for a week and travelling all the way home upgraded to first class was a real highlight and a touch of luxury, very much deserved.
